The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year 2002 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students in B.Tech. Program. The department also offers two Post graduate programs, M.Tech. (Machine Design) which was started in the year 2013, M.Tech. (Thermal Engineering) which was started in the year 2013 with an intake of 24 each. The present intake in the both PG programs is 18.
The department was accredited by NBA in 2009 and 2013 in Tier-II. The faculty is well qualified, dynamic and experienced. The department is consistently achieving good academic results. The placements of the department are progressively increasing every year. The department has strong research groups in Machine Vision, Composites, 3D Printing, Robotics, IC Engines and Biofuels.

The faculty members are having many research papers in peer reviewed reputed national and international journals and conferences to their credit. The department is having strong backup of qualified supporting staff to support the laboratory work. The department receives funds from various agencies such as AICTE-MODROBS, NIDHI TBI, ECM Germany. Faculty members are recognized as Supervisors for Ph.D. Programs of various universities. Faculty members are also reviewers of international journals.
The department is a recognized research centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK), Kakinada in the years 2016 and 2021.
The department has a good academic culture and conducive working environment for teaching learning, research and development. The department boasts well equipped laboratories in the area of Advanced Robotic Control, 3D Printing, Dassualt Systems, Manufacturing and Thermal labs. The department has adequate infrastructure to achieve the academic excellence. The department has many professional society student chapters and conducting good number of programs under these chapters regularly.
The department conducts regularly faculty and staff development programs under the AICTE/NITTTR for the benefit of faculty members of various engineering colleges. Experts from Industries of repute are regularly contributing to these programs. The aim of conducting these programs is to update the knowledge of all the concerned in the advanced technological area. This helps to build interaction with Industry and R&D laboratories of national repute.
