Dr.D.Suneel, the Vice Principal of NEC has announced that NEC has signed a memorandum of understanding with DOCTORITE Inc, US-based healthcare company on 11th February 2022. Doctorite strongly believes that empathetic human connection is critical to mental well-being.
Keeping that as a primary driver, it offers to help the student self-assess, track, get human help in the form of a Listener as well as reach out to healthcare professionals such as psychologists or Therapists. Students can access their stress & anxiety with Mood Check (AI bot). The AI-based algorithm will be able to suggest appropriate self-help content, Listener or reach out to healthcare professional for a better outcome.
M.S.Chakravarthy, Vice Chairman of the NEC, stated that DOCTORITE has been recognized as a platform for identifying students’ mental and emotional wellness and addressing them with a trained empathetic listener, Psychiatrists/Therapists. He further said that Research and news speak out loud, how 18-24-year-olds are struggling to cope with their mental health and well-being especially post the onset of a pandemic. Depression, anxiety, social anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem are some of the common forms of mental health challenges the student population is faced with. The pandemic triggered an additional level of social isolation and loneliness to their existing challenges. He went on to say that skills, knowledge, and intelligence, as well as emotional and mental health, are all essential for the student’s success in today’s precarious competitive world. As a result, he gives students the opportunity to share their emotions with qualified doctors and be helped to overcome depression, anxiety, and other ailments. M.S.Chakravarthy further announced that this App will be offered to students free of cost and the total expenses are born by the Institute.
The purpose of this MOU, according to Dr.M.Sreenivasa Kumar, the Principal of NEC is to encourage mental and emotional wellness among students, promote collaboration, and extend mutual support in achieving academic excellence.
He said that through Doctorite app students can connect and share their feelings anonymously with Empathetic Listener (who is an individual that is trained in Active Listening skills and undergoes curated and scientifically validated content for an understanding around mental health issues such as suicide, self-harm, grief, etc .to listen to the student in a safe space without judgment. The human connection helps alleviate fears and provides the needed support and validation for students.
